Merge PDF lets you join two or more PDF files into a single document. Add your files, arrange them in the order you want, and download the combined PDF in seconds. Everything happens inside your browser, so your documents are never uploaded to a server.
What is a PDF merger?
A PDF merger takes two or more separate PDF files and joins them into one continuous document. Instead of sending five attachments in an email or uploading five files to a portal, you can send a single file where all pages appear in the order you choose. This tool does exactly that, and it runs entirely inside your web browser, so there is nothing to install and no account to create.
When do you need to merge PDF files?
People combine PDFs far more often than they expect. Here are some very common situations:
- Job and visa applications. Many portals accept only one upload. You can combine your resume, cover letter, certificates and identity documents into a single file.
- School and university work. Students often finish an assignment in separate parts, such as a cover page, the main report and an appendix. Merging them gives your teacher one clean submission.
- Business paperwork. Invoices, contracts, receipts and purchase orders can be bundled into one file for accounting or for a client.
- Scanned documents. Phone scanning apps often save each page as its own file. Merging puts the pages back together in the right order.
- Personal records. Bank statements for a year, medical reports, or property papers are easier to store and share as one document.
How the merge works
Every PDF is made of pages, fonts, images and a small index that describes where everything is stored. When you merge files, the tool reads each document, copies its pages exactly as they are, and writes them into a new document in the sequence shown in your file list. Because the pages are copied rather than re-drawn, text stays sharp, images keep their quality and links inside the pages continue to work. The order is simple: the first file in the list becomes the first pages of the result, and so on. You can move files up or down with the arrow buttons before you press the merge button.
Your files stay private
Many online PDF websites upload your documents to a server, process them there and send them back. That is a risk when your files contain bank details, identity numbers or business secrets. Our merge tool works differently. The processing happens on your own device inside the browser. Your documents are not sent to our servers, which also means the tool works quickly even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
Tips for a clean result
- Rename your files with numbers, such as 01-cover.pdf and 02-report.pdf, so they are easy to recognise in the list.
- Check the order before you merge. Moving a file after the merge means starting again.
- If the final file is very large, run it through the Compress PDF tool afterwards to make it easier to email.
- If you only need some pages from a document, use the Extract PDF Pages tool first and then merge the smaller pieces.
- Keep your original files until you have opened the merged document and confirmed that every page is present.
Common problems and how to fix them
The file will not load. The PDF may be damaged or password protected. Open it in your PDF viewer, remove the password and save a new copy, then try again.
Pages appear in the wrong order. Use the up and down arrows in the file list. If one file contains pages that must be split up first, use the Split PDF tool.
The merged file is too big for an upload form. Large scans are the usual reason. Compress the merged file, or merge fewer documents at once.
The browser becomes slow. Merging many very large files needs memory. Close other tabs, or merge in two or three smaller groups and then merge the results.
Free, with no limits on how often you use it
There is no sign-up, no daily limit and no watermark added by us. You can merge as many times as you like. Select your files above, arrange them and download your combined PDF in a few seconds.
A real-world example
Imagine Sara is applying for a university course. The portal allows only one upload of up to 10 megabytes. She has her application form, a certificate, a recommendation letter and her passport scan, all as separate PDFs. She adds the four files here, moves the application form to the top, checks the order and merges them. In less than a minute she has one tidy document ready to upload.
Checklist before you download
- Every file you need is in the list, and nothing extra.
- The order matches how a reader should go through the document.
- You know the maximum size allowed by the place you are sending it to.
- You will open the result once and scroll through every page.
