QR Code Generator creates a QR code for a website link, text, phone number or Wi-Fi details. Choose the size and colours, then download a sharp PNG image.
What is a QR code?
A QR code is a square pattern of black and white dots that a phone camera can read in a moment. It stores information such as a website address, a line of text, a phone number or Wi-Fi details. QR stands for Quick Response. Scanning a code opens the stored content without typing anything, which is why you see QR codes on menus, posters, business cards, product packaging and payment screens.
What can you put in a QR code?
- A website link to your shop, blog, portfolio or social profile.
- Plain text such as a message, a coupon code or a short note.
- A phone number or email address. Use formats such as tel:+123456789 or mailto:name@example.com.
- Wi-Fi access. Use the format WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;; so guests can join by scanning.
- A location by pasting a map link.
Settings explained
Size. Larger images are sharper for print. 512 pixels is good for most uses, and 1024 pixels suits posters and banners.
Error correction. QR codes include extra data that lets a scanner read the code even when part of it is damaged or covered. Low restores about 7 percent, Medium about 15 percent, Quartile about 25 percent and High about 30 percent. Higher levels make the pattern denser, so use Medium for screens and High for printed codes that may get dirty.
Colours. Dark dots on a light background scan best. You can use brand colours, but keep strong contrast. Light dots on a dark background may fail with some scanners.
How the tool works
Your text is encoded into the QR pattern in your browser using a standard QR algorithm, and the result is drawn on a canvas and saved as a PNG file. A quiet margin of white space is added around the code, because scanners need that border to detect the pattern. No data is sent to any server, and no tracking is added to your code.
Static codes do not expire
The codes created here are static: the information is stored in the pattern itself. They never expire and do not depend on our website. The only thing that can stop a code from working is the content it points to. If your code links to a web page and that page is removed, the code will lead nowhere.
Tips for codes that scan every time
- Test the code with at least two phones before printing.
- Print at least 2 by 2 centimetres, and larger for codes that people scan from a distance.
- Keep the white margin and do not place text or pictures over the pattern.
- Use short links. Less text creates a simpler pattern that is easier to scan.
- Add a short call to action next to the code, such as Scan to see the menu.
Troubleshooting
The code does not scan. Check the colours and contrast, make the image larger or increase the error correction level.
The code looks too dense. Your text is long. Use a shorter link or a lower error correction level.
The library did not load. Reload the page and check your internet connection.
Free and without sign-up
Type your text or link, choose the style and download your QR code. There are no limits and no watermarks.
A real-world example
Yasir owns a small cafe and wants guests to open the menu on their phones. He pastes the link to his online menu, chooses Medium error correction and a size of 1024 pixels, then prints the QR code on small table cards with the line Scan to see our menu. Customers scan it in seconds and he no longer has to reprint paper menus when prices change, because the link stays the same.
Checklist before you print or share
- You tested the code with two different phones.
- The link is correct and will remain online.
- The code is printed large enough and has a white margin.
- Colours have strong contrast between dots and background.

Frequently asked questions
Do QR codes expire?
No. The code only contains your text, so it works as long as the link inside it works.
What is error correction?
Higher levels let the code still scan if it is dirty or partly covered, but make it denser.
