Rotate and Flip Image fixes photos that are sideways or mirrored. Rotate by 90, 180 or 270 degrees, or flip horizontally or vertically.
Rotate and flip your images online
A photo that opens sideways or upside down is quick to fix. This tool rotates images by 90, 180 or 270 degrees and can mirror them horizontally or vertically. It works on several photos at the same time and runs entirely in your browser.
Why images appear rotated
Phones and cameras store an orientation flag with each photo, and not every program respects it. As a result a picture looks correct on your phone but appears sideways on a computer, in an email or in a document. Scans and screenshots can also come out in the wrong direction. Rotating and saving a new file fixes the issue permanently.
Rotation versus flipping
Rotation turns the picture around its centre. A 90 degree clockwise rotation moves the top edge to the right side. 180 degrees turns the image upside down. A 90 degree counter-clockwise rotation moves the top edge to the left.
Flipping creates a mirror image. Horizontal flip swaps left and right, which is useful for selfies that were mirrored or for design mockups. Vertical flip swaps top and bottom.
Practical uses
- Fix photos of documents taken in the wrong orientation.
- Correct pictures before converting them into a PDF.
- Mirror a photo for creative work or printing on transfers.
- Prepare product pictures so that every image has the same direction.
- Repair scans that were fed into the scanner sideways.
How it works
For each image the tool creates a new canvas with the correct dimensions. For a 90 or 270 degree turn the width and height are swapped. The picture is drawn with the chosen transformation and saved in its original format: PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP and others become JPG with very high quality. The file name shows which action was used.
Privacy
Your photos stay on your device. They are not sent to a server and are not stored by this website.
Tips
- If many photos need the same correction, select them all and apply the action once.
- Check the result in your gallery or file manager before deleting the originals.
- Rotating JPG images repeatedly can slowly reduce quality. Choose the correct action in one step if you can.
- If you need a slight tilt correction, such as 3 degrees, a full photo editor is a better tool.
Troubleshooting
The image looks the same after I downloaded it. Some viewers show the old cached version. Open the new file by its new name.
The picture was already upright on my phone. Your phone reads the orientation flag. Rotating it here would turn it the wrong way for other devices only if the flag is missing, so preview the result carefully.
I rotated the wrong way. Run the tool on the original again with the opposite option.
Free and unlimited
No registration, no watermark and no limit on how many images you rotate.
A real-world example
Imran photographs twelve receipts for his expense report. Several images were taken with the phone held sideways and appear rotated when he opens them on his computer. He selects all twelve, chooses rotate 90 degrees clockwise and downloads the corrected files. He then sends them to accounting in the correct orientation.
Checklist before you download
- You checked which direction the images need to turn.
- You selected only images that need the same correction.
- You will preview a few results before deleting originals.
- You used flip only when you really want a mirror image.

More questions about this tool
Why does my photo look correct on the phone but sideways here?
Phones store a hidden orientation tag. Some programs ignore it. If the picture appears sideways, rotate it here and save a new file so that every program shows it upright.
Can I rotate by a custom angle such as 15 degrees?
This tool offers quarter-turns and flips, which are lossless. For small tilt corrections, use a photo editor that supports custom angles.
How to use Rotate and Flip Image
