Round Image turns a photo into a circle or adds rounded corners. The result is a PNG with a transparent background, ideal for profile pictures and logos.
Make round images and rounded corners
Round profile pictures and softly rounded photos look modern and friendly. This tool turns your image into a perfect circle or gives it rounded corners, and saves the result as a PNG with a transparent background. It works with many pictures at once and runs in your browser.
Where round images are used
- Profile pictures for websites, forums, email signatures and messaging apps.
- Team pages where every member has a circular portrait.
- Logos and badges for social media accounts.
- Design mockups that need a transparent image with rounded edges.
- Presentations and documents where a circle looks neater than a rectangle.
Circle or rounded corners?
Circle. The tool first crops the centre of your picture into a square, then cuts it into a circle. The result is as large as the shorter side of your original. Choose this for portraits and avatars.
Rounded corners. The full picture is kept, and only the corners are rounded. You control the radius as a percentage of the shorter side. A small number such as 10 gives a gentle curve, and 50 turns a square image into a circle.
Why the result is a PNG
Areas outside the circle or beyond the rounded corners must be see-through. JPG cannot store transparency, but PNG can. That is why the result is always a PNG. The transparent corners will show whatever background is behind the picture on your page or in your design.
How it works
The tool draws a rounded shape path on a canvas, uses it as a clipping mask and then draws your picture inside it. Pixels outside the mask remain transparent. There is no change to the quality of the visible area.
Privacy
Your images stay in your browser and are not uploaded. Personal photos remain private.
Tips
- For portraits, make sure the face is near the centre of the original, since the circle crop keeps the middle part.
- Use the Resize Image tool afterwards if you need a specific size, such as 200 by 200 pixels.
- If you intend to put the image on a coloured background, check that the edges look clean there.
- Keep the original for future edits.
Troubleshooting
The corners look white in my editor. Some programs show a white or checkered background behind transparent pixels. Place the image on a coloured background to see the transparency.
My face is cut off. Crop the original first so that the face is centred.
The file is large. PNG files are larger than JPG. Resize the image before rounding if you need a smaller file.

A real-world example
Laiba is preparing a team page for her company website. Each portrait is a different shape, which makes the page look uneven. She crops every photo to a square, runs them through the circle option and downloads the PNG files. The team page now shows a row of consistent round portraits that look neat on every screen.
Checklist before you download
- Faces are close to the centre of the original picture.
- You chose circle for avatars and rounded corners for cards.

More questions about this tool
Can I use the result on any background?
Yes. Because the corners are transparent, the image blends with any background colour. Check how the edge looks on dark and light backgrounds.
What radius should I use for rounded corners?
Values between 8 and 20 percent look modern and soft. A value of 50 percent creates a full circle or pill shape.
Can I keep a photo rectangular but smooth the corners?
Yes. Choose Rounded corners and set a radius of about 10 to 15 percent. The whole picture is kept and only the corners are softened.
